SURROUNDINGS

If one should name place in particular in Sweden that has a special impact on all its visitors, it would be the streched out valley of the Klarälven-river in Värmland. From all parts of the world tourists enjoy the incredable nature with its forests and wildlife, the magnificent lakes that, during summer, sometimes heat up to 25 degrees Celcius and make great swimming pools, the vast offer of outdoor activities and don't forget the piece and quiet that can be found around every corner.
Here you can walk, cycle, canoe, raft, swim, fish, play golf or any other sport or just do nothing at all, without being disturbed in any way.
Every year more visitors discover the unlimited possibilities Värmland offers and find out that Sweden is not expensive and year around cold. Prices are not higher than at home or in other popular holiday-destinations and summers are warm and stable.
In Sweden one pays with SEK (Swedish Krones)

Värmland has a land-climate; hard winters with lots of snow and low temperatures and warm, stable and pleasant summers with temperatures far above 20 degrees Celcius. In summer almost 24 hours of daylight and in winter shorter days but than again longer nights, so plenty of time to enjoy all things Klarälvsdalen has to offer you!
Swedish people are seldom in a hurry, you will not find traffic-jams here and everybody is friendly and hospitable.
This also applies to Ekshärad; a small village with its roots deep in the foresting business. Famous for is old wooden church and grave-yard with the iron grave monuments and the population that call themselves 'indians'
There are a numer of stories pointing back to this name, but what more fun than conducting your own investigation while you visit the area!
Ekshärad has everything to take care of your daily needs; there are supermarkets (09.00 - 21.00 h), a tourist-office and gas-stations and, if unexpectedly needed, a docter and pharmacy; even a hospital is close by.
In the surroundings you'll find the towns of Hagfors with its iron-past, Torsby with its year around ski-tunnel and Sunne with its summer opened waterpark and ski-facilities.
In 45 minutes you can go skiing on the slopes of the ski- areas in Branäs and Torsby. They offer good possibilities for downhill as well as cross country skiing.
And of course the area offers a great deal of summer activities (just look on the activities-page on this site!)
Want to see some cultural sights; in Karlstad you will find the Värmlands Museum, in Sunne the home of the famous Swedish writer Selma Lagerlöf (Nils Holgersson) and all over the area you can find museums; from wildlife to agriculture, fishing and industry.
There is alway something you like!
