The history of Hedegårds Pensionat goes back to the thirtees of the last century. In 1936 Anna-Tora Hedeen, on the farm of her father in law, started renting out rooms.
What she could not imagine then was that she would become a legend during her life and that people would talk about her and Hedegårds all over Sweden.
Everybody in Värmland and far outside its borders knew who she was and the two cooking-books she has written were worn out by many house-wifes.
Recipies from Värmland, cooked with home grown vegetables and fruit and meat from her own cattle.
We at Hedegårds own exactly one copy of both her cooking-books and outside the fact that we have some of Anna-Tora’s recipies on our menu, you can also take copies of the original recipies home with you and, after your vacation, prepare them in your kitchen at home.
In 1982 even the King and Queen could not resist eating at Hedegårds. So during your stay at our guesthouse in Ekshärad, Värmland, you will follow in Royal footsteps!
In those days also the farm at Hedegårds was at its top. Beside the maintenance and the care for the big vegetable- garden and life stock, they worked the 9 acres of land and fished the river Klarälven, that is meandering through 'Klarälvsdalen' behind Hedegårds, and is abounding in fish
Many of the machines and equipment used for farming those days can still be seen at Hedegårds in the little museum that’s been set up in one of the barns and provides an overall view of life at Hedegårds during those early days.
You can also find all the old guestbooks back at the main-building in which you can look up all the names of the people that visited the guesthouse during all those years.
By bringing back some cattle like sheep, goats and chicken and laying-out a vegetable garden we will restore some of the farm-atmosphere every year.
